Chemo day

Chemo day and I took Iona to school and did reading workshop, as normal on a Thursday.

My nurse this time was Ursula - I was a bit worried about telling Iona her name as the only Ursula she knows is the sea witch from Ariel! Having just come back to Bristol from 10 years in Edinburgh we had plenty to talk about to while away the 3 hours. And she's arranged for her colleagues in Edinburgh to take my bloods the day before my next treatment so that we don't have to drive down on Boxing Day. Good job too because Iona has got a ticket for The Snowman! Ursula has shot to the top of our nurses' score chart.

It's not an awful experience the drugs going in - it's more the thought of it - and the epirubicin is quite stingy on my veins - but I am really happy when the needle comes out.

Martin stayed at home all day which was great. He was ably supported by Emma who was on hand with mince pies, Australian crunch and plenty of gossip - all a great distraction from the drugs! Iona had a play date with Ellie - Iona's social diary is so full she's got a 3-week waiting list for play dates!!

Unfortunately this time the treatment did make me sick - maybe it was the new drug - and, as I write I'm not sure it's over! Suffice to say I don't think Covent Garden Tomato & Basil soup will be on the lunch menu for a while. So much for Tesco's 2 for 1 offers!

And so 2 down and 4 to go - if this was a half marathon then I've got over the first horrible couple of miles and settled into my pace. This is the cruising phase. The worrying thing about thinking about my next treatment on 28th December is that I realise how close we are to Christmas and how little shopping we've done!

Not much planned for tomorrow - just a day at home with magazines.

Please, please keep on blogging - we read and enjoy every single one. You have no idea how much it means to us. And Abigail - one of your jobs was to make us laugh and you're doing fab.

This blog was typed with the help of Iona ie slowly!

Thanks everyone - next stop..!!

Vicky xx

Hi Vicky,

So sorry to hear that the drugs made you sick this time - but at least you're a third of the way through now! Hope the sickness doesn't last and that a day with magazines tomorrow helps you relax.

Shall keep on blogging all the way!

Love,

Hi Vicky,
I know Martin through work and ask about your progress at every opportunity. Sorry to hear about the sickness and the wasted Covent Garden Soup but keep up the good work girl we're all very proud of you.
Sod the Christmas shopping in town, internet buying is far more exciting and you don't have the pain of queuing at the checkout.
Speak soon and fill us in on any gossip in those mags you read

Glad I'm not Abigail - now that's pressure to be the humourous one. I mean, it obviously comes naturally to me but I'm thinking about others! ;o)

Vicky if you're ever bored of writing podcast scripts and becoming quiz master extraordinare (after all these mags you're reading - bagsy you on my Trivial Pursuit team), then do you fancy putting together a week's bus tour of Scotland for Ian and I?? We're heading to St Andrew's way for a wedding in August and I need to find lots of excuses to prevent Ian from embarassing himself on the golf course (I can't bear to tell him they won't actually accept his standard even on the pitch and put!).

Lots of love Bexs B xx

Martin, how much do you want for the spare Tomato and Basil, can't be worth much?

Sick as a parrot to hear you felt rubbish this time around - I've heard that rock deodorant stuff can have a bad effect, I'm sure you should be putting it under your arms.

Lots of love from up t' road

Useless as always as I have nothing funny on the agenda. Just heading off downunder, with a mix of emotions - great holiday but can you imagine how much ribbing I am going to have to take about the Ashes! Not exactly the most illustrous achievement being the only team to lose a test having made so many runs in the first innings ... too depressing!

Anyway my lovely - hope by Xmas the sickness has abated and you can enjoy a good lunch. As for the shopping I shouldn't worry about it - much more important things to think about.

Will be keeping updated whilst away and will call on our return.

Keep smiling, keep positive and thinking of you daily.

Much love

Hi Vicky, Martin and Iona

Sorry to hear that the chemo made you sick this time. I hope it settles and you get a few good days in the run up to christmas. I can always do some christmas shopping for you when I'm next in Bristol (Managed to do all my own in a day at Cribby)
Lots of Love
Abigail Angus, Becca and Archie

PS Reading this blog I learn so much about you all- For example I had no idea you have a goldfish.

We have recently entered the world of Goldfish ownership.Angus won one at the advent fair in Cirencester. He, Becca and Archie came home very excited and we set about naming it.

Becca decided that it should be called 'Mary'. No particular reason she said. (Although I suspect her school nativity play had something to do with it) We could not get her to budge from 'Mary'. I suggested she go for 'Little Baby Jesus' instead, but she said that that would be a silly name ('Mary' is a girl fish apparently).

This weekend we bought another fish to keep 'Mary' company. This time Archie chose the name.
I do hope 'Mary' gets on with her new friend 'Bouncy Ball'.(!)

Hi Vicky,
Thanks for a lovely weekend. This is a very selfish comment, but I feel so much better for having seen you so I'm glad you were up for a visit, it meant loads to both me and Andy. Please say thanks to Martin (great lasagne - I mean that, Martin!) and to Iona for reading me a story and letting me help with the colouring in (although Iona's was much better than mine, I need more practise I think !).
Hope you have a nice few days with your Mum.
We love the blog and reading everyone's comments. Glad you get so much out of it too.
Keep popping the vitamins. They seem to be doing a grand job but I don't envy you those wheatgrass tablets !
lots of love,
Helen
