Highs and Lows

Well, where to start.....?

Your blog comments these last few days have brought tears to my eyes - as I lay on the sofa the days before going into hospital, I felt so awful, I was sure I was on my way. It was actually quite a relief to be admitted to the oncology centre. Then I got all tearful again when I thought I was going home on Saturday - my neutrophylls had shot up to 9 - only to be told that they'd discovered a bug in my blood cultures and I couldn't go home until Sunday.

Anyway, being in hospital, we saw Dr Braybrooke sooner than expected and he gave us my scan results - the news is mixed and a bit disappointing. The tumours on my brain have responded well to the treatment but the ones on my liver haven't unfortunately. I feel that I ought to be devastated but I'm just so glad that my brain has responded to the treatment. What it means is all change to my treatment from the beginning of October. Dr B is going to give me a triple combination called MMM, which I'll have every two weeks. He'll give it three treatments then scan again. He still believes there's something he can try. Let's hope so.

Delighted to hear you are home but really sorry about the chemo news. Don't give up hope Dr B sounds like a great guy to have on your side.

The following quote from Christopher Robin/Eeyore made me smile and I hope it might help a little.

"Hello, Eeyore" said Christopher Robin, as he opened the door and came out. "How are you?"
"It's snowing still" said Eeyore gloomily."
"So it is"
"And freezing"
"Is it?"
"Yes" said Eeyore. "However" he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately".

Much love

Hi Vicky- welcome back! Does that mean you are back home? Hope so, it must be the best therapy. And three cheers for Dr B.. his determination to find something that works for you is very heartening- if he thinks there is another way, then that must be great news for you all. Anyway- just to let you know we are thinking of you lots and sending you a huge hug.

Hi Vicky,

I am thinking of you and hope you are back to your usual bubbly self soon.

As soon as you are feeling up to visitors - let me know and I hope the new cat is settling in well!

Love to Martin and Iona too.
Loads of hugs and sunshine
Danielle :)

P.S I thought I would make you laugh with a story about John Hirst's Little Adam - I was babysitting for him last week and when John went to give him a kiss good night he said that he loved me in his sleep! Watch out Rob!

Hi there Vicky.
I'm glad you're home. It must be nice to be back to your sunny livingroom. We've all missed you. The English guest editors were good but we much prefer our special reporter Weir. The news about the tumours on your brain is very encouraging. Let's all hope the triple M will do the business on that liver of yours. I can imagine (well, I can try) that you feel exhausted and every week there seems to be a high and a low, but please don't give up Vicky. We're all rooting for you. We think of you all the time and we're all continually amazed by you.
Give Martin and Iona a cuddle too.
Love Sarah B. Milano

Hi Vic,

Sorry I've been a little distant lately. You've been in my thoughts continuously but I've just not known what to say. My comments mirror those of all your lovely friends and family out there, who like me are here for you through those 'Highs and lows'. I'm glad you back in the comform of your home and hear Skye the cat is keeping you entertained. It's lovely that you think you will be fit for Friday and I look forwards to catching up, make sure you don't over do it tho girl... you've always been one to look out for others and go beyond your call of duty!

I'm still clinging hold to my seat on the bus, the journey has been a bit rocky lately but we're on the move again...

Love and best wishes. Kerrie x

Hi Vicky!

Vicky - been thinking about you lots and willing the treatment to work. So now I'm sitting here writing this paltry note (I wish I could think of something more witty and uplifting like all yours are)and willing twice as hard to hope that the new treatment has a good effect on your liver. Just keep fighting girl - we're all rooting (?) for you. Love and hugs to you and Martin and Iona. Jane, Tim, Ellen and Charlie xxxxx

Hi
I seem to text rather than blog but I would like to defend my reputation to other bloggers!!I did use the consultant parking space and hide food! I am sure all will agree Vicky's need for melon and salad should take NHS priority! There weren't any cars there when I arrived but when I left my banged out old Nissan with sticky finger marks on the windows was surrounded by shiny BMW's and Audi's - so obviously an imposter!
I know you are feeling awful and this is the hardest journey. I am really appreciating the unexpected lovely moments like when Abs, Jacqui and I all turned up at your bedside and checked out the PJ's - nice choice Martin!
Love to everyone
Hannah
PS Orla asked me next time I wrote to send 'lots of lovely love to Iona' - She knows some of what is going on and is thinking alot about her very special friend.

I woke up and thought about you this morning so really glad to hear that you're back home surrounded by 'Team Vicky' (Did you know they call you 'Big V'??!) It's a mix of sunshine and rain today - kind of apt but don't forget you are always where the sunshine is in our hearts.

p.s

Hi Vicky,

I was just going to add a message & Maya asked if she could write something, so she did the above with a teeny tiny bit of help from me. And no help from Lara who had to be restrained from the keyboard, much to her disgust.

Anyway - great news that you're home and fingers crossed that the new treatment can go one better than the last.

We're all looking forward to Friday - just take it steady. You can hold court in a comfy sofa!

See you soon,

Kathryn, Gerry & girls

Glad to hear that you're home again Vicky. There's nothing like your own sofa when you need it. I'm glad that brain of yours has come through and responded well to Dr B's treatment. And somehow having a treatment of MMM sounds very positive. So sending lots of cleansing ?? thoughts to your liver

Hope you'll be well enough for Friday

and if not see you soon
