It's taking a long time to get out of the post-chemo fog this time but I'm getting there. My cold probably hasn't helped and I can't seem to shake it off so I've only managed into work twice this week. I don't feel down or sad - in fact I've had quite a nice week, meeting Karen for a flu fighter juice and Hannah for a drink (home by 9.30!), reading books and magazines and perfecting the perfect veggie lasagne (not quite non-dairy, I must confess!) But..I'm up for a party tonight - Jenny's 30th (wow, I feel old!) even if I will be the first to leave!
Anyway, it's half term next week - Iona's got an assortment of people looking after her for the first few days - and we're off to Dartmouth on Thursday for 3 nights. A change of scene and some sea air will do us all good and I feel quite excited about having a little holiday. We've found a lovely cottage in the centre of town so we can potter about and have some fun. As long as Iona can find a place to satisfy her latest obsession of skipping she'll be happy!
Having spent the last four months unable to think about anything beyond the next chemo session, with just one to go, we are now starting to think about life after March - I'm not saying I'm back into my old planning habits but it's good to think that the summer (hopefully) will be treatment free and life can get back to normal for, at least, a few months. We've not dared to book a summer holiday yet but I have entered the Bristol Half Marathon, which is in September, and hope to be up to starting training by the end of March. For now, I'll enjoy the Sunday morning lie-ins! Every cloud..and all that!!!
love Vicky xx

Hi Vicky
Its been great to see you at work if only for a couple of days this week, think your mad coming in at all!!!!
As Im not in next week (off to Confex) thought Id wish you all a happy holiday, am sure there are plenty of places for Iona to entertain you with her obsessive skipping habit!!, and am sure plenty of places will abide to your veggie lasagne!
Take care & have a fab time.
Lots of love Helen (One of the 3 party girls in the penthouse suite)
Hi Vicky,
Glad you are feeling better - and are up for the party tonight! Very impressed by your entry for the Bristol Half - can only promise to come and cheer you on as I know my legs aren't up to 13 miles!
Have a fantastic time in Dartmouth!
Love,
Karen xx
Hi Vicky and Martin,
It's been good to get up to date with how things have been - your blog is fantastic, charting the highs and...the other bits. I'm so glad you're out of the fog now and it's brilliant that you have a holiday in your sights. Great to hear as well that you're planning to put your gorgeous legs around the Bristol half - well impressive!
Things up here in the north are fine; hope to speak on the phone soon and I'm so much looking forward to seeing you later in March when your treamtment will be all over - only ONE TO GO!!
Have a great holiday in Dartmouth,
Lots of love,
Emma
Hi Vicky,
Glad to find you out of the fog. Have a relaxing time in Dartmouth. I'm sure the sea air will do you good. You are just so incredible wanting to enter the half marathon. I don't know anyone else as determined as you. Well done Vic.
We've all got flu. Maurizio started his new job today and seems pretty positive about it.
Love Barney.
P.S. Hi Margot (sorry to break blog rules by sending messages to other people !) I just thought I'd give you a laugh by telling you I got your Christmas card on Wednesday ! Good to get all your news. Love Sarah.
I've looked into the SunWalk which is happening in Bristol on Sunday 8 July and there are three distances that you can choose from: half marathon (13.1 miles), 10k and 5k. If you want to walk with friends as a 'team' you have to choose the same length. If anyone wants to walk with me I'll probably go for the 10k distance unless someone twists my arm and persuades me to go for the half marathon. Email me if you are interested or want to find out more on sarahwilliams@bbcmagazinesbristol.com

p.s. just so you all know, Vicky may have been the most sober, but she was by no means the first person to leave Jenny's party. Still the party animal!
Hi Vicky
I hope that Dartmouth is relaxing and that the sea air blows any remaining fog (and any cobwebs) away.
If not, you can get a double dose by popping up here for a weekend when you feel like it and I'll take you guys kiteing, which should be a good laugh.
Have you persuaded Martin to do the Sunwalk? Helen and I are game for it. Any opportunity for me to wear a bra! I might even shave my head for the event if anyone will sponsor me £25 to do it.......
LOL to You, Iona and Martin
Andy
With regard to the Sunwalk, I hope this makes you laugh.

Hellooo,
Glad to hear you are starting to feel better. Sounds like life is finally creeping back to normality. Great to hear you have a holiday booked. Looks like Andy and I are up for the Sun Walk. Hope he doesn't insist on training in his pink bra or I may have to take a different route. You won't be surprised to hear I'll give the Bristol half marathon a miss !
Anyway, we must catch up soon.
Love to you, Martin and Princess Skippy xx
Well hello there,
I've just spent the last 3/4 hour (after my lunch break ops) catching up on all your news and I am so pleased that the summer is looming and you're winging that bus out the other end of the tunnel.
I've just signed up for the London 10km and I think I am a superstar, then I read you're attempting the half marathon and I realise that, whilst I am clearly still a superstar, you are a super super superstar. ;o)
Ian and I are both fine, Ian's off to N.Ireland this weekend to visit his Mum - the first thing he said to me this morning with sheer glee was "it looks like Jonny Wilkinson can't play then" (I told him to give up his British passport then but maybe that was a bit harsh!) - the 6 nations shows true alliances doesn't it!
I have the girls from home coming up this weekend with two 6 year olds so will be utterly exhausted by the end of it!
Take care and have a lovely weekend.
Lots of love Bexs & Ian xx
Hi Vicky,
Really glad to hear that Summer will bring a reprive from the nastier treatments.
If you'd like someone to run with now and again during your training then let me know.
Also, I'd be happy (privileged) to run with you come September. Let me know how you feel about this?
All the best,
Luke
Hi Vicky
Great to hear that you are looking ahead and making great plans for the next few months. Do you think that the three of you would be able to fit in your postponned birthday bash weekend with us sometime in the next few months? It would be great to have you all here and of course the kids would love to see Iona again. Hope you've had a good few days away. John's off skiing next weekend and I am looking forward to our Bath weekend at the end of March.
Will phone very soon....
Lots of love to you all

Hi Vicky and Martin,
A quick update from sunny Melbourne! Frances is doing well after session 2 of 8. Boy that WAS quick!
Vicky, it's been fantastic reading all about your highs and, naturally, your lows, as it has prepared us well for all that is happening; lots of false starts, delays and deep lows, followed by great highs. Life becomes an unpredictable roller coaster ride, but hey, we're on the ride!
Can I just say Martin, I now know what you're going through too and I salute you. I would really appreciate talking to you, even it's through email. Mark has my email address and it would be great to hear from you.
Love, positive vibes, and neutrophils from Oz!
Peter, Frances and their Tasmanian Devils!
Hi Vicky
Sorry for being away from the bus for so long, but I have read all and am now up to speed.
Am so glad you only have one chemo session left, with hopefully a warm and relaxing summer ahead. I would have thought the powers that be would have let you avoid the nasty cold that most seem to be suffering with at the mo, clearly not.
If I were religious, reading between the lines, I think there is a positive omen with your nurse training to be a carpentry apprentice. Pretty sure there was an untouchable famous figure from yonder yonder years who trained as a carpenters apprentice to his father. As I remember, he was pretty good at defying the odds on a number of occasions.......x
Hoping to come up to Bristol soon so would love to see you for a black tea!
So much love

Although you may really feel hurried each morning or just tend not to seem like making the effort to eat breakfast time, stop and take a moment and eat one thing healthier. It would increase your metabolic process and include some fuel for your system for the entire day. Studies show that those who have morning meal every day get more good results in shedding pounds.
