July Update..

Hi Everyone

Almost July.. Time flies doesn’t it? What’s been happening since my last blog? Hmm well two weddings, a Wembley final, and Colstons parents camp.. And lots more..

Sarah & Skip got married early May, and it was such a lovely day. It was a long day for a six year old but she did great. They got married at Cadbury Country Club which was amazing. It meant a lot to be there with Iona, thanks S & S. Hope you two lovebirds are ok back in Oz. Skip officially the funniest Australian I’ve ever met, well apart from Adam Hills that is..

Joan was in Bristol the whole month of May, which was so helpful. Jo the nanny was away for two weeks.

Bristol City went to Wembley, we were almost in the Premiership.. But not quite. Brilliant day out though. Thanks Bro. Championship football next season.

My big girl was 18! I know I know I just don’t look old enough.. thanks.. Or is it Laura looks older for her age? We all went out for her Birthday which was fun. She's off on her first holiday without adult supervision.. what out Turkey..!

End of May, Hannah & Rich got married. At Priston mill near Bath. They played the Proclaimers ‘lets get married’ as Hannah walked down the aisle. Perfect. Really was a memorable day. I remember Vicky and me watching the Proclaimers at Glastonbury. We had such a giggle that night. Lots of cool bands playing, we decided the only place to be was with the Proclaimers tent. Hotcin! Good choice Hannah for a wedding song.

In between all of the above we went to see Margot and John, Sue & Roger. Joan had a small gathering at her flat (still keeping it for a while longer yet) it was to say just to thank all of you who were so kind when she was setting up the flat back last year.

We’re going to Portugal this summer with Anna & Ed. Iona is spending a week with Helen & Andy, and a few weeks in Edinburgh. That just about covers the summer holidays.

Last weekend a group of us from Colstons School went camping. A lovely farm close to Tintern Abbey. It was a bit hit and miss with the weather but all the kids enjoyed themselves. Tree swings and balls games for them and a camp fire and alcohol for us grownups. Well I say grownups we were drinking until the small hours and should have known better, kiddie winks were up dead early and some of us were suffering the next day!

Off shopping tomorrow, Iona is in a school play (she’s playing a worker) we need a hard hat and a tool belt? I know a lot of you still log on to catch up with us here in Bristol but don’t leave a message, which is fine.

Love to you all.

Martin & Iona xx

Dear Martin & Iona,

Great to hear your news and like you say, we often log in to catch up with what you are doing but haven't left a message until now! So please keep blogging, it means a lot to us to keep in touch and know what you are up to.

Your plans for the summer sound great and we hope that Iona is now getting some wear out of those fab Boden sandals (these things are important in a girls life!).

All is well in the Landale household and we often think of you both and of vicky in the odd moments we have between feeds and nappy changes.

More soon, with lots of love from us all,
Cath, James, Ellen, Alex, Kate and Anna xx

Hi Martin & Iona

Great to hear your news, you sound like you are doing a fantastic job of everything. We haven't written for ages but still check the blog and enjoy hearing how you are all getting along.

Sounds like you have a fair few fans Down Under, so if you ever make it over here, we'd love to catch up with you both.

Look after each other

Hello Martin,

You certainly still have regular blog readers here at Destination Bristol who don't always post comments! I'm one of those. Thank you for your updates.

So often I think of Vicky. I miss how motivational, kind and inspiring she could be as a manager. Still regular post turns up at the office addressed to her and the odd phone calls asking to speak to Miss Weir as I'm sure you are all to familiar with. In a recent employee development review, I suggested that perhaps they introduce an award of some kind for staff and name it the Vicky Weir award in her memory and for recognition of the many years she spent here. I'll keep you posted.

Anyway, I'm glad you are keeping busy and having good times. Does Laura still work in Top Shop in Weston or now that's she's 18, has she moved on to Bar Work!! I'll look out for her in Weston-s-Mare.

Unfortunatley I couldn't make it to Sarah & Andrews wedding as I had a small operation that week, but I was looking forward to catching up and saying hello to Iona. I've seen some photo's and hear it was a wonderful day

Enjoy the summer holidays, love to everyone

Really enjoyed reading the update, and appreciate you keeping us in touch. We still think of you often and have been logging in!

Alls well in Canada, hot and humid and we're 4 weeks into summer hols for the boys. Can't believe your schools haven't broken up yet. We have another 6 weeks to go and so I've booked the boys into some good old north american sports 'day camps'!! A sanity break for us all!

Love, The Bradshaws x

Hi Martin, Iona and all fellow bloggers!

Thank you so much for keeping in contact via the blog. This little cyber community is still here for you!

It sounds like you've got your summer all organised - which is great!

Glad you both enjoyed our wedding - it meant such alot that you were there. And thank you for our video message!

Having felt so helpless during Vicky's journey I have decided to do a 10km run for Cure Cancer charity - in Vicky's honour.

Those of you who know me, will know that I'm not a runner so this is a big challenge for me! I started training last week and have already got up to (a slow) 5km - even though I'm Sarah beetroot face by the end of it!

If you would like to sponsor me you can click on the link below and search for my (new)surname 'Kerrsmith' then do an online credit card transaction. It will be in Aussie dollars, but that's good value if you're sponsoring in pounds!

https://www.cantoo.org.au/sponsorshipform.aspx?PageID=18

The target we've been set is $800, which I think is a good amount to really make a difference to stop this awful disease in its tracks.

Have a great summer everyone!

Love Sarah & Andrew newlyweds Kerrsmith xxx

Hi all,
Loved reading all the comments and catching up with people I have only come to know through Vicky and this blog. It's feels better knowing there are lots of people out there who think about Vicky regularly too.
Good to hear all is well, Martin. Those camping trips sound great fun. We're so looking forward to having Iona stay. Planning lots of fun things for us to do.
Went to see Mamma Mia recently. Got caught out when "Slipping Through my Fingers" started. Some of you may remember this was one of the songs chosen by Vicky to be played at her funeral. Don't things always pop up at the times when you least expect them?
Speak soon, Martin. Give Iona a big hug from us both,
love, Helen xx

Geezer,

Keep up the good work fella... I am one of those who gets the updates from Sarah and have until now followed the bus without actually catching a proper ride. However at last here I am, sat up the front next to the bus driver hoping to keep the bus heading towards the blue sky and sunshine on the horizon. Mate believe me its not an easy journey but you are doing extremely well and coping like the true champion that you are. There will continue to be dark days and for these may i suggest you keep the bus fog lights on full and keep the pedal to the medal and then the sun will crest the horizon and come in to brighten your days once again.

Thank you so much for sharing in our special wedding day and we were so happy to have Iona there, as the only child it really made it special for us. As Sarah mentioned she is running to raise some cash for charity and as for me well, I am eating meat pies and drinking beer; although I'm not sure thats helping anyone least of all my waistline.

It was a shame that 'city' didn't make the premiership but hey there's always next year.

Much love to Iona and Laura and a big manly hug for you.
Skip

ps: Our Oz wedding will be at xmas time with a different stag weekend this time camping on the river and wakeboarding....

Dear Martin and Iona
Well here we are again - still reading your news - and so pleased that you are planning - there is nothing like a good plan! and we all know only too well who else liked to `make a plan`
You do seem to be very busy indeed - but that is a good thing and I am sure Iona is having a wonderful time with everything you have organized.
It was so nice to receive a letter from Joan. What a shame we all live so far apart - it would be nice if we could pop round and see each other for coffee - or even stretch it to a glass of wine or two!!!
We have just been out sailing - and as ever - memories come flooding back of some of the lovely friends we have made through sailing. Such special memories.
Well let`s hope this summer stays fine for us all - especially the children - there is nothing worse than rainy days when all they want to do is play in the sunshine.
We hope Iona has lots of sunshine in her days!
Much love to you both - take care - From your Friends in the North
Muir and Rod xx

Hi Martin & Iona,

Thanks for the updates on the blog, it really is lovely to read what you and Iona are up to. It's good to hear that you have so much planned for the summer and you are both well.

Vicky is in my thoughts often, so many things remind me of her. I also saw Mamma Mia and remember talking about 'Slipping through my fingers' with her and what it meant to her. It's bitter sweet, I imagine she would have loved the film.

Take care both of you and thank you for continuing to share with us.

Dear Martin,

We have never met but I knew Vicky well at University and for a few years afterwards in London and Bristol - buying a flat together in the early 90's. We hadn't been in touch for years but can't say how shocked I was to see her orbiturary in a Bristol Uni mag last week. Reading this blog is extraordinarily sad but reminds me very much of the person I knew back then. I can't imagine what this was like for those closer to her.

I'd be very grateful if you could forward addresses for Joan and Anna to me -if they are in agreement- I would like to write to them.(m.peters@ich.ucl.ac.uk)
Best wishes

Hi Martin,

How have the Summer Holidays gone, now that they are coming to a close? I can't remember the exact date, but I realise it is Iona's Birthday about now. Did she have a lovely day? I remember Vicky rushing out at lunch time whilst at work, to buy Iona presents and ordering her Next clothing on-line! How is Skye the cat these days?

I too watched Mamma Mia recently and had to swallow hard when 'Slipping through my Fingers' came on. A film to show Iona when she's a little older.

Take care. Kerrie x

Martin, Joan, Vicky and all the family
I haven't blogged for ages but I do continue to read your blogs regularly.
I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you all as another milestone is reached tomorrow with Iona's first birthday party without Vicky. No doubt you will do her proud and give Iona a fab day. It seems impossible that nearly a year has passed since we lost Vicky. You guys continue to be such a fab example of how to make sure life goes on, however hard it must be at times. Keep smiling, Martin and Joan - those smiles are always a solid reminder of how strong people can be and they always make me that little bit more cheerful on a rainy morning!
