The Bus Stops.

Hi Every one, It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.

Iona started Taekwondo before Christmas and seems to be really enjoying it. Her concentration is amazing. She’s just determined to get beyond my belts! Shouldn’t take her long. We’ll see. Also she’s just had her first piano lesson. All week of practicing middle C..! She’s doing very well at school still and seems happy.

This blog as you all know was Vicky’s idea from the start. Just another One of her brilliant inspired ideas I might add. Of course none of us knew just how cruelly short it would end up being. However, I can say watching her face light up each time she read the comments funny or otherwise was just as important as any medicine. As I’m sure it was for those of you that wrote comments, helping and supporting via the blog was your way of coping. Having said that a lot of you never did write anything for whatever reason it was a help for you too, just to read the blog. To be on the journey.

I still think of Vicky every day. Each time I look at Iona, see the photographs of Vicky around the flat or hear a certain song. With Iona, I sometimes think what Vicky would do now, how would Vicky handle this situation or would Vicky think I was doing a good job. Of course I never get an answer, but I try and just be the man she knew. I always will. Our journey is still ongoing. Some of you have followed this last year or so via the blog, but sadly I feel it time to stop writing now.

It’s gone so fast. I’d never of thought that blow drying a little girl’s hair could be so satisfying! I’ve learned to cope with running a home (that won’t mean much too many guys reading this), juggle a full time job, school holidays, and most importantly keep Iona happy, secure and loved. Without doubt, an even tougher task if it wasn’t for help. Joan, Anna & Ed, Jacqui & Shane, Mark & Jo, John & Margot, Helen & Andy, both Hannah’s, and Emma. Many more of you, I can’t name you all, but phone calls, cards, emails and visits from so many. Every one of you helping in different ways. Amazing all of you.

I will save this Blog so Iona can look back in years to come and be able see just what a unique woman Vicky was. It takes somebody truly special to be loved by so many people. So I end with saying one last huge thank you to everybody for logging on, reading, posting a comment and being there for Vicky, Iona and me.

Lots of Love

Martin & Iona X

Always happy to hear of Iona doing well. Sounds like she'll be a black belt pionist in no time.

I wish you both all the best in everything you do.

Could I suggest that you do not rely completely on blogger to retain these posts and make additional copies of them just in case. Although I don't think blogger does it, I have several old websites which were deleted after a while for being inactive.

Again, all the best and thank you.

Vicky was brilliant. You are brilliant too Martin and I feel sure that Vicky would say you were doing a great job. Thank you for keeping up the blog, thank you for being there for Vicky and thank you for taking such good care of her little girl. I also think of Vicky every day but more and more the memories are of the happy times of which there were many. We are looking forward to seeing you and Iona soon. Lots of love, Margot, John, Rowan, Ceara and Lochlan xx

Hi Martin,
I've loved the blog. It's felt like we have all been on a journey together and, although I'll be sad to see it go, I completely understand your reasons. It's been such a support for us all, I think, knowing there are others out there missing Vicky and thinking about her every day. Like Margot, though, my thoughts are more and more about the happy times. Iona never fails to amaze me. She's such fun to be with, so inquisitive, determined and funny. Just thinking about her makes me smile. She certainly has her Mum's zest for life. And the best thing is that she's OK, she's really OK. So I think it's a good time to leave it. I'm sure you'll continue to do an amazing job. Vicky was right to put her faith in you.

Much love - and bye to all our fellow bloggers,

Helen xx
ps. Andy says he's trembling at the idea of a Ninja Iona (oni-san he calls her) getting the better of him in the summer. He sends his love....

Hi Martin,

I am sure I speak for all the Saha Mums when I say that you are a true star, and Iona is so very lucky to have you in her life. Thank you for keeping the bus running for so long - I wish you and Iona all the best for the future, and hope to catch snippets of information about how Iona is growing up via the Bristol grapevine!

Love and Best Wishes,

Karen Morris x

Hi Martin and Iona,

We've been regular visitors to Vicky's blog - but 'quiet' visitors, rarely knowing what to write. It's 10 years since we left Bristol to spend a couple of weeks with Vicky in Zimbabwe, on our way to Australia. Vicky gave us a wonderful introduction to Africa, of course - we'll always cherish our memories of that amazing time and of Vicky, the happy and generous adventurer!

Martin - you and Vicky were such good bloggers! Thank you so much for keeping it going for so long.

Wishing you both the very best for your future journey together, with love from John, Lisa, Finn, Millie & Hamish Williams in Sydney

Martin (and Iona)

I wish you all the very best. What an inspirational family you have been to so many. We were so sad that the cancer overpowered Vicky's immense strength, humour and bravery.

We realise how lucky we are that Quentin is still going through it - he had more lung surgery on Wednesday and is still in hospital recovering.

We think of you often and wish you very happy times with the gorgeous Iona.

thanks for the great blog.

Hi dear Martin and Iona

The blog felt like a wonderful, inspired way of Vicky taking her family and hundreds of friends on her journey. A typically caring and creative idea, her posts and the comments would sometimes make me cry and sometimes make me smile and even laugh. They always made Vicky seem very close by. I'm glad you continued it for a while and I'm also glad you feel the time has come to close it.

I know I'll never be the same because of knowing Vicky and you and Iona. It's the same for all of us who travelled on the bus with you. I miss Vicky loads, and thank you for being such lovely and loving people.

Emma xx

Dear Martin and Iona
Thank you for your wonderful generosity in sharing with us all your very emotive blog. We have followed the ups and downs, the joy and the tears and the great sadness that we all felt with Vickys passing. Dare we say that we felt very close to you all throughout what can only be described as the most amazing bus journey. It is very understandable now that the bus is to be `retired` and a new journey awaits you. So many lives have been touched by not only Vicky but by you too Martin. We shall cherish, with great fondness, the time we knew Vicky and the short time we knew you - and how could anyone forget what an adorable little girl Iona is.
Our dearest love to you both and we wish you well in whatever you do.
The bus has stopped - but the journey continues - life is but a journey - may it be good and kind to you both!
From Your Friends in the North - Muir and Rod xxxx

Firstly well done ...Vicky would be SO proud of you both.......You definitely need to keep this blog for Iona to read and understand more when she is a bit older on how amazing her Mum was and still is and how everyone admired her courage and determination.....She was a brave, courageous, caring, gentle, honest, fun-loving and above all amazing woman.......I will never forget her, I used to babysit Iona when Vicky would go out with the girls and on that special night when she met Martin for the first time!!......who knew then what a brilliant man he would end up being....Loving Vicky for EVERYTHING she was worth and still is.....and taking Iona under his wing and keeping the memories of her mother alive....by fulfilling her wishes and helping her grow into a strong independant little lady xx You are as amazing as Vicky and you should be VERY proud of yourself because I can bet you that Vicky is so happy knowing that You and Iona and the rest of the family are still living your lives to the full.....she wouldn'nt want it any other way xx
Vicky is an insipartion to all of us x And am always thinking of her and you all x LOTS of love and caring wishes for the future>>> GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH THE WONDERS OF LIFE XXX

I endorse everything that has been said already. The bus concept was a brilliant Vicky idea and thank you for allowing us to share your journey and unite in our support. It's right that the Charabanc is now parked in the depot and as you and Iona continue your journey, I suggest a sporty little convertable. As you head off with the roof down, the wind in your hair and the sun in your face, laughing at the twists and turns ahead, rest assured that we are all still following, just behind that last bend. Travel well.

What if I were to run a marathon? A whole marathon? The thought was so ridiculous that I did not dare voice it to anyone.
